  • Vintage Snowmobile Oval Races
    January 20, 2018
    For the third year Snow Explorers/Altitude Off Road Inc. will be hosting Vintage Snowmobile Oval Races at Sagebrush Downs Oval Track in Cora, WY. This race features many different classes of vintage snowmobiles that will keep spectators gripped with excitement all day! Racers will come from throughout the Mountain West to show off their fastest machines for this day of competition. We hope to see you all there at this family-friendly race!
  •  18th Annual One Lunger 100 Vintage Snowmobile Race
    February 3, 2018
    The 18th Annual One Lunger 100 will take place on February 3, 2018 at Sagebrush Downs oval track in Cora, WY with racing beginning around 10:30 am. This unique event features hardy snowmobile racers on vintage snowmobiles that they have built and repaired themselves. You are guaranteed to see some spills as competition gets tight on the track as well as some great mechanics repairing their sleds mid-race so they can compete to the very end.
    Entries for the 100 lap race are open to teams of two people riding sleds that are 1973 and older. There is also a 10 lap race for sleds 1977 and older as well as a kids race for sleds that are 120cc or kitty cats. 
  • Winter Carnival
    February 16-19, 2018
    The Pinedale Winter Carnival drifts back into Pinedale Presidents Day February 16-19, 2018 to celebrate the magnificent season of ice and snow in Pinedale. The Wintercarn as it is affectionately called is a welcomed social relief after several months of wintery weather, cold temperatures, and mostly hibernating and “holing” up for the winter. The event hosts a variety of indoor and outdoor family friendly events. Events are open to all age groups and people can spectate or participate!

Wind River Country

  • Bighorn Safari
    National Bighorn Sheep Center
    Valid until May 15, 2018
    Join a guided three- to four-hour field tour to experience bighorn sheep in their winter range. This customized tour is perfect for wildlife enthusiasts, photographers and small groups. We begin the tour at the National Bighorn Sheep Center, providing a thorough background introduction to the Whiskey Basin Habitat area, bighorn sheep biology and the history of wild sheep. We then drive to specific locations where bighorn sheep have been recently sighted and learn more about their habitat and biology in the field. Optional hiking is available to additional sites. We provide binoculars, transportation and knowledgeable guides, and we can also arrange for bag lunches if desired – please inquire. Groups are welcome. We do require a deposit and at least 48-hour advance notice. Tours cost $100/person (for two or more people), or if desired, one person can attend for $200. Sorry, no pets allowed.
    Mention that you read about this from the Wind River Visitor’s Council and get $20 off the total tour rate. We can also accommodate larger groups at reduced rates, so please contact us for more information.

Sheridan, Wyoming

Antelope Butte is hosting the first ever Bighorn Rush Sled Dog Challenge on Dec. 30th and 31st. The inaugural event, the 2017 Bighorn Rush is an effort to promote dog-powered and winter sports in the greatest little mountain range in our state, the Bighorn Mountains. The Antelope Butte Mountain Recreation Area, host of the race, is located along Wyoming State Hwy 14 about 10 miles south of Burgess Junction (junction of Hwy 14 and 14A). The trails mostly sit between 8,500 and 9,800 feet above sea level. This is a two-day event, with musher’s racing the same course both days.

Eatons’ Ranch has a cool experience this winter! Their Winter Bed and Breakfast is open from Dec 1st – May 13th, 2018. The B&B sits right at the base of the mountains and is just a short drive from snowmobiling and cross-country skiing the Bighorn Mountains. They offer weekly dinner specials on Friday and Saturday from 6pm – 8pm and Sunday Brunch is from 10am – 2pm. 

Bear Lodge sits in the heart of the Bighorn National Forest and is equipped with 30 motel rooms, one of which is the Jacuzzi Suite. It also offers several duplex cabins as well as rustic cabins for the tougher travelers. Snowmobile rentals and tours are available directly through Bear Lodge and you can even have your ride filmed!
